Using Timestamp Converter

Convert Unix timestamps and readable dates. The original tool automatically interprets numeric values of ten or fewer digits as seconds and longer numeric values as milliseconds. Unix time counts elapsed time from 1970-01-01T00:00:00Z.

Worked example

1704067200 seconds and 1704067200000 milliseconds both represent 2024-01-01T00:00:00.000Z. A local display can show a different calendar date because your timezone may be behind UTC. Compare the UTC result when checking values shared between systems.

What to check and what this tool cannot do

A date without a timezone can be ambiguous. Daylight-saving transitions can also make a local clock time occur twice or not occur at all. JavaScript date parsing is not a validator for every date format, and numeric precision limits apply to extreme values. This converter does not interpret timezone abbreviations as an authoritative location.

Getting a useful result

Check whether the source system uses seconds or milliseconds before entering a value. The digit-based detection is a convenience rather than a universal rule, especially for historical or extreme dates. For readable dates, use an ISO 8601 value with Z or an explicit numeric timezone offset.

Where processing happens

Developer and text tools process input in your browser. PDF and image tools may attempt local conversion and use server processing when local conversion is unavailable. Website requests and usage analytics are separate from the content you enter. Large files can exceed your device’s available memory. See how tools work and our privacy policy.
