Using Text Compare
Compare two text versions and inspect their differences. Use it to check a revised email, configuration, or document excerpt before replacing the original. A comparison makes changes easier to locate; it does not decide whether those changes are correct.
Worked example
Put The total is 120. in the first input and The total is 125. in the second. Run the comparison and inspect the changed number. Add an extra blank line or space and compare again to see how the current comparison options treat whitespace.
What to check and what this tool cannot do
This is a text comparison rather than a rich-document comparison. Pasting from Word or a PDF does not preserve every layout, comment, tracked change, image, or table relationship. Very large or heavily changed inputs can make the comparison slower or harder to interpret. Similar-looking characters can still have different Unicode representations. Lines are compared by position, so inserting a line can cause several subsequent lines to be reported as changed. It is not a semantic or version-control merge tool.
Getting a useful result
Compare matching sections instead of pasting two unrelated documents. Decide whether whitespace matters to your task before ignoring it. For source code, also run the project’s validator or tests; for contracts or financial documents, check the substance of each change rather than relying only on color highlighting.
Where processing happens
Developer and text tools process input in your browser. PDF and image tools may attempt local conversion and use server processing when local conversion is unavailable. Website requests and usage analytics are separate from the content you enter. Large files can exceed your device’s available memory. See how tools work and our privacy policy.
