Using PNG to JPG
Convert a PNG image into a JPG for compatibility or to reduce the size of a photograph saved as PNG. JPG is usually suitable for photographs, while PNG is often better for screenshots with sharp text, logos, and transparent graphics.
Worked example
A product photo saved as a large PNG may become smaller as a JPG. Convert it, then compare the downloaded size and inspect lettering, outlines, and fine textures. If the source is a logo with transparent surroundings, check the replacement background before putting it on a colored webpage.
What to check and what this tool cannot do
JPG does not support transparency, so transparent areas are flattened against a background during conversion. JPG compression is lossy and may add artifacts around text or high-contrast edges. The output may not preserve PNG metadata, color profiles, or animation. A conversion can be larger than the original.
Getting a useful result
Use the original PNG when transparency or exact pixel edges matter. Avoid converting a JPG to PNG and back merely to improve quality; changing the extension cannot restore lost detail. Open the final JPG in the application that will use it and confirm its background, dimensions, and orientation.
Where processing happens
Developer and text tools process input in your browser. PDF and image tools may attempt local conversion and use server processing when local conversion is unavailable. Website requests and usage analytics are separate from the content you enter. Large files can exceed your device’s available memory. See how tools work and our privacy policy.
